Final YAMP meeting for 2008

For those who can make it to the final YAMP meeting of 2008 it will be held in MS3 on December 18th from 4pm onwards. Apart from snacking on some nibblies, we will be discussing what went wrong with the YAMP project this year.

Please give some thought to the following questions before coming to the meeting so on the day we can exchange our ideas:
  1. What did you feel were the barriers to this project - what did you struggle with the most?
  2. How could we have solved these problems?
  3. What did you learn from your experiences in the YAMP group this year?
  4. What could we have done differently?
  5. What projects would you like to work on next year?

This type of reflective practice is important in order to learn from our experiences. If you are unable to attend the final YAMP meeting, please post your answers to these questions on the blog, however this last meeting is a very important one so please try to make it on the day.

Follow up from previous meeting

Hello YAMPers!

Last Thursday we held a YAMP meeting that unfortunately was only attended by two people. We took advantage of the time to discuss what needed to be accomplished before a filming date can be scheduled.

There are a few things we need to finalise:
1. A well planned storyboard
2. A script
3. A list of names for those who are planning on attending the filming date, and an explanation of what role each person is to take (for example, cameraman, lighting, actor, director etc)
4. Written permission from your parents to attend the filming day
5. The finished giant book prop
6. An agreed upon date!!

Nathan and Jeremy began work on the storyboard but we do still need to get that finished, as well as a script and a confirmed list of participants before approval for filming can go ahead.

Just keep in mind that there is no strict date by which this project needs finishing, so it is much preferred that we take all the time needed to properly plan for this film to make sure that it is of good quality rather than rushing to get it finished.

Please post a comment to let everyone know where you are up to in preparing for filming and what role you want to take on the day. If you know of other people in the YAMP group who do not have access to this blog can you please pass this message along to them?

Filming Schedule

Hello YAMPers!

Because we have not been able to meet together this week, I thought I would just make a note here to remind you all that we need to set some solid dates for the filming of your commercial.

Nathan has indicated that the 8th and 22nd of November at 2pm are good times for him, but we need to get some feedback from others in the group who will be joining us on those days.

Perhaps we could also put together a storyboard for review at next weeks' meeting (Nov 6th)so we have a good idea of what scenes we need to film and how long the filming will take on each day. If there already is a storyboard drawn up - could someone please post it?

Next meeting and some other info

We are having another meeting on Thursday 30 October 4-5pm in Art Space 1 at the Erina Centre. Please post a comment if you're unable to attend.

Also, has a decision been made on which library is going to be used for the filming of the ad? Tentative filming dates are 1 & 8 November. If you recall, we discussed using Woy Woy or Kincumber on a Saturday afternoon, as they close at 2pm.

Giant book

This is the picture a colleague drew of what the giant book could possibly look like. Has anyone had any more ideas on what could be done regarding the giant book costume?

Big book costume

I haven't had any luck so far in finding a "big book" costume - I have tried various costume hire places.

A colleague suggested that we can make a book in a "wing style" by using a large piece of heavy cardboard, which will attach to the persons back. This sounds like a pretty good idea - what does everyone think? I will draw it, and try and post what I mean soon.

Our next meeting is this Thursday

Hope everyone can join us at 4pm this Thursday 18th September.

Please post a message if you aren't able to make it.

big book

Hows that for a giant man eating book?

well I suppose I did fake it but it looks cool (although it could do with some fangs) so I uploaded it.

From the last meting people a giant book would be good I'm wondering whether the ad should end with the book eating the random people or with the random people getting away?

Invitations for Nerine and Kristy (the other one that didnt come this time but is next time)

Hey YAMP peoples!
Im afraid that i looked everywhere for how to invite someone (i thought i knew but i didnt) and apparently only an addministrater can invite people. Therefore i think whoever is admin should make me be also admin for the short while it takes to add Nerine & Kristy. (there i said it!)
Thanks,
Shir (Shirtle the Purple Turtle for u nerine :} )

Homework for next meeting

Here are the notes regarding Homework for the next meeting that Bronwyn took:

Nathan S & Jeremy
Create storyboards for library advertisement and work out camera angles, and try to estimate time required to shoot the scenes. Nathan needs to keep developing his library advertisement themes and script.

Alex & Nathan G
Alex and Nathan need to keep working on their script and from their script start to storyboard and work out filming schedule.

Nerine
If Nerine gets enough time between school and studying she will further develop her ideas for a library advertisement, also Nerine is going to research Tropfest for ideas for a ‘Short Flicks Festival’.

Shir
Shir will investigate further his ideas; possibly shoot some continuous photographs of his fighting fish for a movie.

Everyone please investigate other ‘Short Flicks Festival’ ideas and bring them to the next meeting

See you at the next YAMP Meeting 18th September 2008, 4pm-5pm
